Employ Artificial Intelligence to the study of social interactions in urban spaces.
The Senseable City Lab, in collaboration with
Seoul AI Foundation, is launching the Senseable City Seoul. Senseable City Seoul focuses
on the application of Artificial Intelligence to the study of social
interactions in urban spaces. This is especially important in the
context of one of the most acute demographic changes in the world,
which combines an aging population with one of the lowest birth rates.
Beginning with a collection of visual data supplemented by other forms
of data across the city, the Lab will use AI to explore key urban
questions: how people move, interact, and adapt in public spaces
across age groups, socioeconomic backgrounds, times of day and year,
and varying climatic conditions. By merging cutting-edge AI with
humanistic inquiry, the Lab will help to position Seoul as a global
reference for reimagining how cities can foster connection and
community.
MIT Senseable City has been at the forefront of developing AI models based on urban imagery, leveraging the power of computer vision, laser scanning, and remote sensing.
Evidence-based policy is gaining traction globally. We believe that policy decisions should be informed by empirical data from each community, which would lead to data-driven solutions.
Data can also be generated by deploying sensors with specific intent. Embedding technology into the urban environment can yield robust and fine-grained data to reveal humanity’s fingerprint.
